Rains lead to Stains

Washing PoongSoon is like washing my car. As soon as my car gets a carwash, it rains.

Less than a week after giving PoongSoon a bath (a not-so-easy feat for me), it rains. The backyard turns into a muddy mess, and the soft part of her coat acts like a mop picking up sand and dirt.

Wiping her down with a towel gets rid of the sand and the black dirt, but then it reveals a layer of red clay that really clings to her coat.  She looks like a red-tipped cream dog instead of the snow white dog that was in the beach pictures.

  1. I just wanted to say that I really appreciate all your info on Poongsans. We have been offered a puppy while we are living in Yongsan. I had been having a hard time finding anything on temperment for this breed. I wanted to ask you how well they do with children. I have not seen any comments on that yet. I am not sure if we are going to get it yet but I need to cover all my bases before we go any further. You say they like people in general. Thanks for any information!

  2. Well, I don't have kids living with me, but PoongSoon loves to see my visiting nephews. It takes work to get her to act calmly around them though.

She is very exuberant with them. This scares the nephews, which causes the nephews to give high pitched screeches, which feeds her excitement even more. When she was younger, she was a bit of a land shark with her baby teeth. Now that she's nearly 8 months old, she's lost that mouthing but she does sneak in some jumping up before I can stop her.

She is heavier than the nephews, and when she stands up on her back legs, she is taller than them. Even her wagging tail is also a force to consider. She sometimes doesn't know her own strength.

With BokDol, I don't allow free interactions with the nephews because he is under-socialized with people, and he will get scared and react accordingly. I can only guess on what could have been by observing how he acts with PoongSoon.

His tolerance for her rough-housing is incredibly high, and he never corrects her but chooses to run away once he's had enough. Part of that may be "puppy immunity", but I sometimes wonder if I'm seeing the famous "long fuse" of the Poongsan with him. I guess I'll see once PoongSoon grows out of her "puppy immunity".
